Slender: The Arrival is not the first game to star the first popular Internet-mythology monster Slenderman, but it is the best of the lot. In it, you play a woman who visits a friend only to find the friend has been taken by the eponymous baddie.

Calling this game a first-person shooter isn’t quite accurate; first-person explorer is a better term. There are no weapons. You have a flashlight; that’s it. If you encounter danger, you must run. When the monster chasing you can teleport right in front of your face, you’ll be left with one of two reactions: A scream of fear that Slenderman has you, or a cry of anger at the game being cheap and not playing fair.
